Film Schools in California
Where else do we think we may find them, the most famous film schools in the United States, than in lovely California. So 'California here I come', remember that song? The singer somehow sounded like he had been wigged out on Qualudes but nevertheless he got the picture quite right. The most aspiring young want-to-be- actors are quite optimistic about their future careers as film stars, thanks to a proper dose of Prozac maybe but then who can really withstand the temptation of all this glitz and glamour? Turning up as a corpse washed up on the beach or just looking cute from behind a textbook as a schoolmate of the leading actor in a short flashback scene of a mediocre production may help paying for films school in California.
There are worse jobs and worse future prospects indeed than getting stranded in California as an extra. And still there is always the possibility of an agent scanning the beaches for new scream-material for another Final Destination- production. So this is the cashflow-part when it comes to studying film, of course the film schools offer a great variety of other lessons to learn that will definety be of great value when more important roles are waiting or better have to be prepared for, since castings are mercyless and sometimes even embarassing. Some students will stay being extras forever, others will be beautiful corpses as long as they are beautiful, since there is no need for ugly corpses unless the victim was mangled in a car accident or half-eaten by a zombie. Like with so many other vocations, playing music, writing, sports, acting should be fun at least and as long it stays fun and one can live of it, it's what one should do.
The happy few who make all the money shall not build up the only inspiration to follow ones goal. Acting is like creating a special atmosphere for oneself and for others it's like conveying a message, it's being someone else for a moment or being quite with oneself for a moment. It should better not become a quest for money, rather a quest for who we really are. With this attitude towards acting and the will to work really hard, no film school in California will turn you down. And then there is always the possibility to aspire to the even more creative job of the director. |
